The File Converter – Convert any file type into another on your iPhone and iPad

Converting files from one format to another has always been somewhat of a hassle on the desktop. I don't know how many times I've searched the web for "AVI to M4V converter" or "M4V to MP3 converter." Usually I have to sift through tons of malware-laden junk software that all want to install a Yahoo search bar in my browser. When I finally find a decent program, I use it and then delete it off my computer. Only go searching for something similar in a few months. You can imagine my delight, then, when I found a clean, professional, app that converts almost everything you can think of. And it being an iOS app is icing on the cake.

The File Converter is a fine piece of tech that will take almost any file format and convert it into any other format. This means you can convert one audio file from WAV and change it into MP3 or vice versa right on your iPhone or iPad. I like using The File Converter to change ePub files into PDF. The coolest part is that it preserves the navigation links. There are numerous file types supported which you can see in this video.

To begin converting a file, the app needs to get it from another source. The easiest way is to use the "Open in…" feature of iOS. You can browse for a file in Safari then choose to open it in The File Browser. You can also do this with a file that already resides in another app or you receive as an email attachment. Once the file is in The File Converter, the app will prompt you to choose a format to convert it into. The next part will require an internet connection. Your file will be securely uploaded to the developer's servers where it is converted and then re-downloaded to your device. The File Converter will then ask you to open the document in another app to view it.

The process is seamless and worked perfectly in most of our tests. We tried to convert some old .pdb files from the by-gone Palm Pilot era into PDF, but this failed. No big deal. Again, not every format is supported, but the most common ones are. Check out this video we made which shows you how it all works.

The File Converter is a sweet app that will hold a place on our iPad for a long time. If you find yourself even occasionally needing to convert files, this is a must have app that does the job in style.
